Life & Death In A Day
As I was leaving my house earlier today, my neighbour stepped out, a newborn baby in his arms. White linen wraps the baby, who’s holding up a tiny finger to daddy’s face. My neighbour beams with the pride of a new father as he receives a touch from his child. He flashes me a wide smile as I drive past.
Reaching the city and stopping at an intersection, I see some pedestrians surrounding a figure in the middle of the road. As I drive across, I see a man lying face down on the road, his arms stretched out — motionless. I wonder if he’s still alive… but it doesn’t make sense to block traffic at a cross-junction if you can still move. His motorcycle is nearby, a twisted mess of metal and machine. A pedestrian directing traffic flags me to move on.
Stopping at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Cafe, I go for my meeting with the lead singer of the heavy metal rock band, Ronin. Their first single, Black Maria, is a hit on local radio charts and stations. They’ve signed on with Universal Music, and are filming a music video with MTVasia.
These are three contrasting conditions. Birth, Death, and Success. Life is too short to spend doing what you don’t like. You can be born today; dead tomorrow. Each day is a gift of time, for you to create and experience that which you enjoy. Before you leave this Earth, whether by accident or by design, make sure you live it to the fullest. Become who you want to be, act on what you want to do, and own whatever you want to have. Then, the moment before the lights go out for good, your memories will flash, and you will know in your heart that, “Yes, life has been good.”
